Several of you have asked how to order a stiletto seam ripper like mine that I show in the video. I purchased mine from Verl Schmidt. You can email or give him a phone call or text to order one. verlschmidt66@gmail.com 208-369-6576 Thanks for watching!
What a great makeover!!🎉🎉 I love love love ❤️ the whole quilt! You did a fantastic job 🎉🎉. Aaaaanndd tada!! the retro flower quilting pattern is the icing on the cake...ahh, quilt😊❤
I love what you did to Christie’s quilt💕 The quilting is perfect! I have 2 rolls of fabric and I think I know what I’m going to be doing with them now. I always buy extra fabric, even after I’ve figured the math, I like having that little bit of extra, if it’s too much extra I make pillow cases or pillows. There’s always left overs for my scrap bin! Scrappy quilts are my favorite. I need to contact you about quilting two quilts that I need to have quilted. Thanks for another great video!💕
SOOOOO much better and that Quilting is absolutely PERFECTION!!! You are a Quilting Genius ...and a HOOT! I LOVE LOVE LUUUUVE the winter Quilt yall made! Just an FYI: Maureen McCormic played Marcia, Eve Plum was Jan ;) ... i am the same way I take pics and make my own pattern from the pics.
Menopause+quilty math=me adding little pieced blocks into the border in order to make up the distance I am short on fabric. I enjoy the challenge but I do spend a lot of bandwidth scratching my head. I design on the fly and somehow it usually works out. Yes, the seam ripper is my friend. The final quilt turned out beautiful! Great job.
That's awesome Karen!!! I love the challenge of designing on the fly, shooting from the hip, quilting off the cuff or what ever you want to call it! Glad you liked the quilt and yes, my seam ripper is a close friend of mine too :) lol! TFW!
Robert Kaufman has app where you just plug in your numbers that you want for your borders and it calculates what you need. Also does binding, batting etc .
For apron..... Create a tube between the skirt and bodice made from 2 jelly roll strips. Sew 2 jelly roll strips onto top of apron skirt. One on front and one on back with right sides together. Stitch and flip up towards top. Fold in half inch seam on both of them. Insert the apron bodice then top stitch the whole length. Insert a sash, cord or elastic to draw up the gather. ❤❤
I was thinking about it but nbc911 really described it so well, I was picturing it coming together. Please make them and share with the generations. Thanks for the fun and auntie appreciating you 😊.
Having flashbacks looking at this quilt! Love what you did with it! As far as the apron goes, points, might work if you don’t like the ruffle look. I would also consider making a band and only slightly gather the fabric for the bottom and then add the top centered over the wider bottom. I hate waste so I would definitely finish it, but that is just how I think. It has beautiful fabric in it and it would be a-shame not completing it and giving away.
The quilt turned out fabulous and the quilting fits perfectly, tell the Engineer I’m a leftie too. Still laughing at his commentary. I always seem to buy more fabric, because it’s a given I’m going to make a mistake. Have a great week. Looking forward to the new video
It’s amazing the difference a 1/4” can make when you’re short of fabric. That and not doing mitred joins really can make the fabric be just enough. If you press the seams open it reduces the bulk at the join. I always buy extra fabric I’ve been caught short before and the fabric was out of print! Never letting that happen again. That trick about adjusting the seam allowance is fabulous thanks for sharing. For the apron do a large basting stitch along the top of the skirt in the seam allowance of the apron and pull it in to gather the fabric to the right size. Once you have that tie of the threads. For the waist band sew the strip to the top and bottom of the skirt using a 1/4” SA and with the second piece for the back, fold the edges of the piece in 1/4” on both sides and attach it to the apron using a top stitch 1/8” in from the edge. That will give you nice finished edges. For the narrow ends you can fold the edges in on themselves and top stitch to close them. I hope that makes sense. What a fabulous job you did with that customers quilt, I’m sure they’ll be delighted with it. That cuddle on the back looks so cosy and the colour is gorgeous. I love it 😍
The quilt turned out beautiful. I love your energy. First time watching and I love it. I love your show. This is great. I can’t wait to see more. Have a great day.😊
So cool, I saw the cute little chickens on your wall edge and thought it was a final border, it would be cool eh. And your trick about sewing a second thin seam I do it all the time, often if would do it maybe on 4 or 5 strips in a row, if I was out like maybe .5” or so, just to make it less obvious for sure no one would notice. Quilt on!
As I approach my 72nd birthday, I've been thinking about the HomeEc/Math teachers that I had during the mid-late 60s. Little did I realize how much math is involved in planning and making a quilt. I was a garment maker until the mid-80s when I discovered quilting. My designs are getting a bit more complicated and, like you, my calculations are too. Diagrams and fractions, Oh My! Thank you for sharing this video and quite possibly a quilt math headache!
OH my goodness, I love this make over! Maybe I should send you my sewn together scarps and see what you do with it. I can't wait to see your next video!!! * waves at the engineer!! * 😍🤩🤩
Beautiful quilt on the wall behind you that you did with your Sister-in-law Di and lovely quilt you transformed from the original x thank you for sharing with us x
That turned out amazing ❤ I just can't seem to do that math in quilting. I just decide how many blocks across and how many down and then add my strips between rows add final border around . The quilting was beautiful also. Thank you for sharing all that information. ❤
You might say it's above your pay grade, but you and your team have come up with a wonderful quilt. Way to go! Love it... can't beat those reproduction fabrics of the 70's. Take care and blessings to y'all.
I have a huge fabric stash, so I do lots of math, trying to use what up I have for my quilting projects so I’m very familiar with the “let’s try and figure out how much we need” method of quilting. It would be easy to run to the fabric store every time I needed more fabric but I would never use up what I have. I do buy new fabric, just not as much! I have taken apart old UFO’s or wips and remade them into something I like better, so that part of the video didn’t bother me! Thank you for sharing and caring about quilting as much as we do!❤️
A different way to finish the apron: sew 2 strips together along one side, the length that you want the waist band to be. One side should tone in with the front and the other with the reverse. Run a long gathering stitch along the top of the bottom of the apron. I use the max stitch length on my machine. Then gather that so it is 1 inch less than the strip you've made. Attach that to the back piece of the strip, turn in the ends and stitch the strip down at the front. Attach two ties of the length that suits. Neaten the edge of the top of the apron and attach it to the waistband you've created. You could also attach the top of the apron between the two pieces of the waist strip as you are making the strip, but that's a bit more fiddly.
HI Diane, I was just talking to Margo the other day and you came up. How are you doing? It's time for a phone call to catch up. Thanks for liking the quilt and thank you for watching my channel! 😊
Wonderful transformation! The colors are yummy and your new design really brings them out. Thank you for a great video experience. Subscribed to your channel today! 🌿❤🌻❤🌿
This quilt is gorgeous... great ta-da, for both quilts. And so lovely to see you sewing in your refurbished space! Woot you! Thank you engineer for the extraneous quilt math, was laughing with glee when I saw you were cacky handed, my mum is also. So glad you and your brother got to do manly things. Also my daughter's wedding was yesterday (bragging rights) and she has a lovely new wife. Much imbibing, laughing, crying and dancing.🎉❤🎉. Hugs, Chel 🌸
Yes he is cacky handed so Blue Block 🟦😂Weddings are so much fun and you did so much of the work yourself. I bet it was beautiful. Congratulations on a new DIL. Now that it’s over, get behind your machine and crank out a couple of quilts🤣😂🤣👍🏼 😊♥️🐥
I love this quilt 😻 You did an amazing job transforming it. Thank you for the suggestions on the pieced border. I will be doing my first pieced border next week and this information will be very beneficial. FYI have you tried the Stripology ruler for cutting strips? It’s a game changer!
❤beautiful. I love it. I also love what you did with it. It gives me an idea to redo a jellyroll quilt top that is left untouched. Im going to improve on the look. Thanjs Di. Hugs
That turned out so pretty. Thanks for sharing the math, I struggle sometimes with that and was nice to see your process. Thanks for taking us on this journey, you did a wonderful job. Have a wonderful week!!!!
I'd finish the apron! Baste the top edge of the apron and just pull the thread edges. The fabric should cinch up and even out the ruffle. I was taught that about 60 yrs ago lol. Then attach the tie to the ruffle edge. I'd iron the tie in half then a quarter in on each edge sew on one edge the fold over to the other edge and stitch down. Maybe topstitch the tie right above the ruffle area. You got an apron! Nice fix on the quilt too😍
I love the quilt. I'm going to try and use cuddle on the back of my next quilt. I know Tracy (the sewing channel) uses it a lot. Thanks for another great video.
I heart you, I was nervous with the first layout too!!! I'm thankful for Blue Block who inspired me to make it the way I did. Thanks for watching Dixie !!
Hi Di and Wendy. With your Apron, Get 2 matching/co-ordinating jelly roll strips. Now Gather in the apron part. to the desired width, stay stitch that sucker so that it won't move. with your right sides facing on your 2 strips, sew all the way around leaving a turning gap in the center of a long side, turn right sides out and give it a fantastic Laura Star press and mark the exact center of the strip, the bodice and the apron. Carefully unpick say a 10" section( bodice width plus a little more ) along the top of the strip, enough to sandwich the bodice piece in, pin carefully inside that strip, you could stitch to 1 side of the strip first carefully holding the other side of the strip away and then top stitch all 3 layers at about an 1/8th of an inch from the side of the strip, repeat for the apron part, then it is all sandwiched between the strips. it is too narrow to try and do the burrito method. Good luck Love your Channel, but never comment as i always watch on the TV. 🤩🥰
You performed a miracle on the jelly roll quilt! It looks beautiful! Your ideas worked great! Your sister-in-law’s quilt is really pretty, too! I know she loves it! The Cuddle color is gorgeous! Thanks for teaching and entertaining us!

I was thinking about it but nbc911 really described it so well, I was picturing it coming together. Please make them and share with the generations. Thanks for the fun and auntie appreciating you 😊.
I should have read comments before posting my suggestions, you described it soooo much better than me :D

@@sisterchicksquilting oh sorry I meant darts, not points. I am showing my age.
I really like this idea! No one wants a really small apron.❤

I like the selvage seams in this one.... the rest of the quilt is "squared" so they are perfect because I think the bias seams would stick out more.
Thanks and thanks for watching 👍🏼😊♥️🐥
The finished quilt looks soooo much better than the original! It’s almost unbelievable! Thanks for sharing! I’m very impressed!

I need to get a stripology ruler and I’m thinking where will I store it 🤷♀️ TFW😊♥️🐥
❤beautiful. I love it. I also love what you did with it. It gives me an idea to redo a jellyroll quilt top that is left untouched. Im going to improve on the look. Thanjs Di. Hugs

Thank you, working them 🐥😊♥️🐥
Great quilt, and the quilting design was perfect!👍
Thanks 👍🏼😊♥️🐥
Love it ❤
Love this video
I'd finish the apron! Baste the top edge of the apron and just pull the thread edges. The fabric should cinch up and even out the ruffle. I was taught that about 60 yrs ago lol. Then attach the tie to the ruffle edge. I'd iron the tie in half then a quarter in on each edge sew on one edge the fold over to the other edge and stitch down. Maybe topstitch the tie right above the ruffle area. You got an apron! Nice fix on the quilt too😍
Great ideas Pattie, Thank you and thank you for watching!!
The quilt came out beautiful ❤
Great transformation. I love your blue and white smocked blouse.
Thanks, it’s cool and comfy 👍🏼😊♥️🐥
I love the quilt. I'm going to try and use cuddle on the back of my next quilt. I know Tracy (the sewing channel) uses it a lot. Thanks for another great video.
She does. We use it in our Longarm studio so much that we stock it for customers. It’s the best April👍🏼 Thanks for watching and the herb tea🥰👍🏼😊♥️🐥
I got nervous with the first layout but was impressed with the final project. Thank you for another great video.
I heart you, I was nervous with the first layout too!!! I'm thankful for Blue Block who inspired me to make it the way I did. Thanks for watching Dixie !!
